Recovering from a Dominican Butt Lift

The Brazilian Butt Lift (or Dominican Butt Lift, Dr´s Mallol Technique) is a butt augmentation surgery which uses your own fat to augment and shape the buttocks. Liposuction is performed to remove that from other areas of the body (such as belly, waist, back, arms, etc.) and that fat is then transferred to the buttocks. Additional lipo can be completed around the butt and banana rolls (underneath the butt) to improve the appearance of lift and contour, getting a perkier buttocks and more contoured body profile.

Immediately after the procedure, the patient can have bruising and swelling in the areas where liposuction was performed. Pain can be managed with medication. Every patient recovers differently from surgery, but most often one can expect to be up and walking on the same day of the procedure. Tumescent fluid may also leak from the drain and the incision points, is completely normal and will cease a few days after surgery.

The doctor will put on a special compression garment to treat the liposuctioned areas. It is recommended that the patient wear the garment to ensure that the areas heal properly, and this also helps to minimize the swelling, decrease discomfort, and help the skin retract.

One of the most important recovery tips regarding the DBL is to not sit directly on the butt for at least 4-5 weeks after the procedure. Patients are often advised to sleep on their stomach or sides or use a boppy pillow if you absolutely must sit. Place the pillow behind your legs is helpful to avoid pressure on the fat graft by raising the butt. This is very important to achieve long-lasting results as sitting directly could destroy the fat cells transferred.

Most patients can return to their normal activities 4-5 weeks after surgery. It is important to listen to all the postoperative instructions provided by Dr. Mallol to help ensure the results.
